A few days ago, while scrolling on Instagram, I came across a post that said, ā€œat some point you have to let go of the idea of creating a better past for yourself.ā€ I know that all of us have at least one regret that we live with, and it is very natural. As human beings, we are allowed to make mistakes, learn from them, make new mistakes, fail, go back to our old patterns, and sometimes even lose ourselves in the process. All these experiences are very human and constitute a significant part of our life.

One of the most complex acts of growing as an individual is letting go of certain things. It can include painful memories, harsh comments, remarks made at you, and many such instances that decide to make a rent-free place for themselves in your mind. Donā€™t get me wrong; when I say "let go," I do not mean that one needs to forgive and forget. What I mean is being able to come to terms with it and look at it for what it is.

When we reflect on our lived experiences, we might see that there is always a mixed bag. Letting go of certain unhelpful events and comments is often viewed as a cowardly act. The truth is, it is literally the opposite. You do not need to forget things, even if youā€™re choosing to offer forgiveness along the way. You can forgive and still hold an individualā€™s actions accountable.

Letting go is a journey, a process. It requires patience, gentleness, and understanding both towards yourself and the relationship you have created with the memories and actions that you want to let go of.

Is it necessary to let go? Not really. But would it help if you could let go? Probably, yes. When you choose to let go, you allow yourself to reclaim the power things and individuals hold over you. When you choose to release yourself from the past, you make space for newer and different experiences. Letting go is an act of courage, and nobody can define when and how you should let go. Take all the time you need and be authentic with your feelings. If you want to learn more ways to authentically connect with yourself, you can also choose to seek professional help. You will know when you feel ready. Happy Healing! āœØ
