Taking care of your self is much more than just eating healthy and working out regularly. Taking care of yourself also requires you to check in with your emotional needs and nurture them timely. Even though caring for oneself is an act of self love, it can make one feel self- centered at times.

Remember that time when you had to say no to a plan because you wanted to rest or spend some time by yourself? Did you feel guilty after saying no? If yes, then you're not alone. So many people face this dilemma when they do not want to cancel a plan but, at the same time, don't have the energy to show up for it. It is not uncommon to feel guilty and selfish when you prioritize yourself over someone or something else. It is how most of us are built, and for many, it's a way of life.

One reason why self-care or prioritizing your needs feels 'selfish' is because it often involves initiating a difficult and sometimes unpleasant conversation with the other person. Prioritizing your emotional needs is as important as showing up for a friend's birthday or being there for a colleague who is going through a hard time.

The more you show up for yourself, the more capacity you will build to be available for others. Self-care can feel selfish, but remember that you can take care of others better when you remember to take care of yourself first.
